1. Golf Carts Can Be Made Street-Legal



Not every jurisdiction will allow you to drive golf carts on streets, but some cities and areas will actually allow you to use public roads. There may be requirements, such as having mirrors or blinkers, so make sure you check out the local laws. Also, keep in mind that golf carts and their drivers will have to follow the speed limit and other laws like everyone else. Further, since most golf carts can achieve speeds of only 10-25 mph, according to Motor and Wheels, you can't take them on every road.



2. The First Golf Cart Was Electric



In 1932, JK Wadley of Texarkana invented the first golf cart and it was electric, according to CartBarn. He came up with the idea after seeing a senior citizen transported to the local grocery store with an electric cart. Wadley first tried to use an existing electric cart on the golf course, but it performed poorly. Undeterred, he set out to make a custom golf cart.



3. Golf Carts Were Initially for People With Physical Challenges



These days, practically everyone uses a golf cart. Even many pros will use carts when they aren't performing in a tournament. However, golf carts were mostly used by senior citizens or people with disabilities.



4. The Gasoline Golf Cart Didn't Arrive Until 1957



The gasoline golf cart didn't appear until 1957, when Max Walker launched the Walker Executive, according to Volo Auto Museum. This cart was actually a three-wheel design, which used to be quite common among golf cart services.
